Your career, challenges and ability to create your own club
At the beginning of the game you can choose between 3 different game modes: Career, My Club or Challenge.
In the Career mode, which lasts 30 years, you'll start as unemployed and wait for the call from a club, or immediately take the reins of a team of your choice. Football Manager Handheld 2014 includes leagues from 14 nations. The big news in this release is that you can choose up to 4 leagues to use and keep active at the same time. This means that, for example, you may begin your adventure as a manager in Italy and then move to Spain, England or Germany when an interesting job offer comes up.
My Club mode is similar to the classic career mode, with the difference being that you can create your own team from scratch, from the ground up. You decide the name, the colors, the stadium capacity, reputation, quality of training facilities, as well as the entire roster from your favorite team.
Challenge mode is a little different - in it, you'll be able to set goals, like saving a team on the brink of relegation. If you complete all the challenges, you can purchase a new one from the store.
The game also stands out for its great transfers. You'll find listings of players for sale or on loan, or those whose contract has already expired or is about to expire. You can also filter the list of players using specific search parameters (physical strength, tackles, shooting, speed, stamina, passing, technique and so on).
Negotiations for the sale of the players are well laid out and include the ability to insert clauses, as is the case in real life contract negotiations.
In FMH 2014, you can also avail of a wide network of scouts, to whom you can give specific assignments for finding new talent to hire.
New game interface
Football Manager Handheld 2014 comes with a revamped game interface. The new boot screen offers an excellent overview of all the information required for a manager: calendar, current position in the standings, the financial status of the club, statistics on players on the team, information on the management and so on. The new sidebar also allows quick access to the main menu of the game: giving you news, club, coach, world, search and options.
Textual commentary and classic 2D graphics
There are few innovations with regard to the game. The match takes place with the classic text commentary on the game screen showing you all the statistical data relating to the match. If desired, you can also choose to watch the action and crucial moments of the match in 2D.
The speed of the game is then modified as needed. During the game, you can perform substitutions, tactical changes and give new instructions to your players according to how the game's going. Finally, there's a useful post-match report, indicating the strengths and weaknesses of the team during the match.
